This gave me a lot to think about over my coffee this morning. There is a distinct difference, and they are two completely different forms of work. I also think we can oscillate between the two.

Of course. Thank you for acknowledging my thoughts. It’s not all there is to writing and writers as some of my readers have commented. But it’s something to think about when you plan on writing as to why you are writing what you are writing and how do you want to share it if you plan on sharing it. Knowing your audience also helps!

there is a bit of difference. most writers dont write to sell. it is their form of expression / search that flows through them in the form of words. when the world realizes, accepts, resonates, circulates then it becomes their writing that is sold. Best is Tolstoy. He is the best writer but never wrote to sell or made it attractive.

I agree wholeheartedly with you but that is not the case nowadays, especially on platforms like Substack where people use the platform to mostly try to sell their writing. That’s what I meant.

Because there’s also others like me who are not here to sell but only to share who do not know how to package their writing into sellable material and don’t even care to and there are a few of us who don’t know how to edit their writing and make it readable.

But just let all their thoughts run all over the place and the reader is forced to go on a wild goose chase in order to understand what the writer wanted to convey.

Oh don’t even get me started on this one!
