The Baby Squirrels
Or perhaps they are called chipmunks
They’re so tiny You can hardly see them But they’re so robust Perhaps they’re called chipmunks We had two of them in our front yard one time It was the same time we had strawberries growing there The strawberries were white I didn’t see any reds But they are all taken before they turned ripe The chipmunks were such an experience They kept moving so quickly from one end to the other of the strawberry patches They warmed the heart and brought so much delight The beautiful chipmunks they stay in my eye sight Have you seen chipmunks or other tiny animals Somehow mice and rats never made the cut But baby bunnies, oh we had only one show up once Carefully tucked under the ornamental plants we had at the time Or was it spearmint Not sure about it But babies are babies no matter where they come from Just seeing them once is enough to bring on the warmth And keep them tucked away in our hearts forever away from plain sight Why do they warm us with so much delight Is it love or wonder or amazement at first Is this what they call love at first sight We loved this tiny baby so much we didn’t want to disturb her at all We looked for her once again and she was still there But so frightened was she that perhaps her mother thought it unwise to leave her where she was Unprotected and frail and vulnerable under the plant where she hid The next day we couldn’t find her Was she taken away or eaten by a wild animal? Hard to say! Some things in life are best left unexplored When you have them you enjoy them And when they leave you forget them And when you remember them years later They still bring warmth to the heart But if you try to hold them on with you They are simply not meant for that! Think about this! Peace ✌🏽

I saved a baby squirrel once! I called it Edgar, so now I call all squirrels Edgar 😂It had fallen out of it’s nest with a sibling and I thought they were both dead until I heard this crying like a puppy. It was this little baby squirrel! I ran home and got something to put it in and called the humane society and they had me bring the squirrel in so that could take care of it. I hope Edgar is out there living it’s best life ❤️
