Appreciation is important

At the end of the day 
If everything we do
Goes unrecognized 
Unacknowledged 
Unappreciated 
Then all our efforts 
Feel like nought 

But if even one person 
Says I see you
I hear you
I feel you
Or
I know what you mean

Then the heart lights up
It warms up
A smile extends on the face 
From ear to ear 
In joy

That’s what appreciation does 
To us
At the end of the day
The heart craves recognition 

We do what we do 
To benefit the world 
Even if it does nothing else for us
And so when what we do goes unnoticed 

It feels unwanted
Discarded
Tossed aside 
As if it was aimed 
To be thrown
Directly 
Into the 
Trash can
Down the road 

So let’s appreciate 
Take the effort
To say thank you
You did good!

Thank you Lord 
For the sun, moon and stars 

Thank you mom and dad 
For all that you sacrificed for us

Thank you siblings 
For sharing with us

Thank you friends
For standing by us

Thank you enemies 
For treating us with empathy 

Thank you doctor
For giving us your time

Thank you teacher 
For guiding us to do better

Thank you police officer
For keeping the roads and the country clean

Thank you Mr. President
For your efforts to bring peace 

Thank you neighbor
For watching out for me

Thank you colleague 
For being there for me

Thank you meteorologist 
For bringing us warnings 

Thank you stranger
For sharing space with me

For delighting me
