I was sitting on the railway station
Watching trains go by
Down came the engine
Roaring by
Chugging along slowly
It came to a stop
Out came the passengers
Moving on fast
I got up to go in
And just as I was close
A woman came rushing by
And swiftly took my spot
The call came next
And the doorways closed
I watched gingerly
As the train passed on!
I didn’t think much of it
On that sunny morn
I told myself then—
Today ain’t my day!
She took my spot
How could she?
She rushed past me
And buried my tea
I waited and waited then
Patiently
Until the next train stopped by me
Ardently
But it was not my train
My train had just passed by me
And gone off without me
How could she?
Then life happened
Passed on by swiftly
Too many distractions
I forgot all about stations and trains
Then finally one day
I suddenly found myself
Sitting on the same
Train station again
And wonder of wonders
Here we are again
The same train came by
And stopped beside me
Should I board it now
And see where it takes?
What do you think?
The train is waiting
I am thinking twice
As I look peer inside
The woman who brushed past me that day
She’s in there as well
Should I take it
Should I let it pass by me again?
I look at the train
Askance this time
It feels like it is teasing me
Blood bubbling
Heat rising
Temper ascending
All within me
But curiosity
My half sister
She wants to get
the best of me
I want to know
If I will reach inside
This time
Before the doors close again
“You or me, train
Let us see!”
