When you fall in love You’ll have butterflies in your stomach Until you readily acknowledge that you fell in love with someone When you fall in love You’ll will feel tingling All over your body Even in your spine When you fall in love You’ll be enamored It will be so hard to peel away Long after the dust has settled Of their leaving When you fall in love You will be on cloud nine Even pain will feel like pleasure It will feel divine When you fall in love It doesn’t matter how old or young you are It will come naturally to you The older you are the more graceful When you fall in love It doesn’t have to be just once It can come and go And make yourself at home all over again When you fall in love It’s such a blessing Those who haven’t fallen in love Even once It’s a shameful living! If somebody came into your life And made you fall in love with them Enough to make your body wake up And tingle with sensations That’s what falling in love is all about It’s a milestone in your life Much like puberty And adulthood Be very grateful For this experience It’s like once in a lifetime event But it leaves you with much wisdom And makes you appreciate What life is all about The other person doesn’t even have to know That you fell in love with them Even for years or decades But the process Is precious I hope you have experienced it at least once in your lifetime If not, you never know when it’s about to hit you Be prepared It will leave you shaking Shivering Puffing Panting Asking for more Even if you never receive quite enough But the experience Is better than a thrill ride In a theme park It doesn’t come and go so fast Or so easily It takes time to arrive But it will hit you like a thunderbolt when it does And you can never miss it Can never say ‘oh I don’t know if this is it’ You will know Just like childbirth It can be more painful than that Especially when it leaves You will be left scampering around Trying to pick up the pieces of your life again But it will never be the same again for you Not even for a day or two It will change you forever That’s growth too And you will want this experience for all to feel Just so they will know the truth The truth about life It’s brevity It’s frailty It’s eagerness To be yours And you will appreciate every moment of your life That led up to this event And appreciate every moment of your life When you were on top of this hill Riding And you will even appreciate every moment of this ride even the most painful Especially the painful The pain of not knowing if your feeling was reciprocated The pain of not understanding why you had to get to know this one moment And lost it the next The pain that follows when you realize this was never meant to be yours Because it was never felt by the other person All that you felt That is the most painful of all events But with it will come the appreciation And the gratitude For having been chosen To receive this feeling This one in a million moments experience Of falling in love Which will never leave you And which you will probably never get over Because the person responsible For making you fall in love with him or her Would have taken a part of you with them forever And you will never be the same person ever again Your heart in his or her hands Waiting and beating forever for their presence again Even when you don’t quite fully comprehend It doesn’t make any sense to your brain Why you can’t let them leave you in peace And in that breaking Lies all the ingredients necessary For understanding empathy Another’s breaking Another’s feeling torn apart Another’s desire to have what is lost Sometimes perhaps forever And that’s what makes you human Enough to understand loss Enough to be there and available for another who is going through the same In pain in sadness and in grief In this broken world And if today you roar for justice For peace For another’s loss It’s only because you know how it feels like To have to endure love and it’s loss And you don’t want that to happen To another human being ever again Not even to a bird or animal Plant or fungus whichever feels the pain you have felt In that brokenness You turn whole You turn holy You turn true to what you have been born to live for In that brokenness you also find peace And wish for peace In every other living thing Be it man, animal or machine! I hope you have experienced it If not, don’t think it won’t ever occur to you It might be just round the corner for all you know Don’t go looking for it though It doesn’t happen when you go looking for it It happens only when you were least expecting it And that’s what makes it so precious And divine I hope you are also chosen to receive it But if you ever have to feel the love and then the loss God forbid it I hope the loss will be temporary The love and longing will return to you In time to let you enjoy and be whole with him or her If not also You will be grateful For the experience Because it’s what makes us human And it’s unlike the love that parents have for their children Or vice versa It’s unlike any other form of love you might have experienced from another person And so it’s different Very different And in that difference Lies your real personality So think about this Perhaps it happened a long time ago And you’ve forgotten all about it But try and remember how it changed you And made you whole And made you who you are today Perhaps we all need a gentle reminder In this very nasty day Why it’s important to be loving To our neighbor across the street And friend down the road But especially to those that we don’t get to meet ever in life Those across the ocean And desert And mountain pass Perhaps this reminder will remind you of how much loss they are experiencing today And make room for patience, peace and kindness To spread all around you on this earth Would you smile? Light up to see your spouse in the morning Perhaps your child who makes your eyes twinkle And your colleague when you meet him next Spread a small cheer Make a tiny dent A tiny ripple current Perhaps that’s all is expected from you today Would you do that?
