The ritual of connecting with others

We connect because 
We need a connection 

We connect because 
We need attention 
We need to express our emotion 
Clearly to the other person 

And when that somebody 
With whom we should exist 
Isn’t found in action

Is either too busy 
To be with us 
Or too busy 
To be with himself 

Doesn’t understand 
Who is important 
And who can be overlooked 

Doesn’t understand 
His responsibility 
His obligation to meet with us 
Where we are at

Then we still try our best 
To connect with them 

And when that doesn’t land 
Where it should
And all our efforts 
Go to nought 

No matter how many times we try 
And how many efforts we put in 

Then at a certain point 
Even the universe is like 
Let him be 
Don’t you bother 

Then the universe will then 
Hold you by the hand
And lead you to another 

Who will be all but ready 
To take his place 
And he will lead you to better pastures 
That you never knew existed 
In the first place 
First of all 

Then you will be satisfied 

After so many failures 
You will be glad to finally be seen
And be heard 
Until the new guy decided 
He can’t do this anymore 

Then you will be left all alone again 

You will finally tell yourself 
“Great! I’m all alone again!”
When the universe will bring 
Another one again 
To take his place from there 

This activity will keep happening 
So much so that now 
You will understand 
the rhythm of the universe 

Now you will understand 
How it functions 
Now you will understand 
How you are not alone here 
But how most of the rest of them also 
Belong where you are at

Now you will understand 
That it is not you 
Who needed a rescue 

But that there are many like you
Who also need you 
To find them 
To hold them 
To lead them by their hand
To better places in peace 

And then you will oblige 
You will be glad 
To now be at a place 
Where you can be looked upon 

Where you can be found by others 
Who need a hand to guide them
A smile in their direction 
To encourage them 
To hold onto you 
Without hesitation 

Until it’s time for yet another 
To take their hand from yours
And to lead them forward 
And onward in their journey 
To where they must now go
And so on it’s goes 

And you will realize that suddenly 
You became one of those helping hands 
That stands in the way of going forward 
And leads the blind onward 
To better places 
Where they also belonged 

And that’s how you find family 
That’s where you find friendships 
That’s may be how you might even 
Meet your love
Gong forward 
You never know 

But then you didn’t go looking for love 
When you started 
You were just looking for company 
Because the company that you kept 
Decided to dismantle your friendship 

In favor of another who didn’t belong 
Or care to
Or even deserve to 
Take your place 
When she did 

And that has made all the difference 
For where you are at right now 
In this world 

And it’s not so bad 
Because now you not only lost the nuisance 
That kept pricking and prodding you 

Now instead 
You found many many others
Precious gems 
Some among them 
Worth holding onto for lifetimes hence 

And that my dear friends 
Has made all the difference ! 

Do you understand this?
I hope you do

But if you do not understand this 
Or follow it
Or buy it
Doesn’t matter 

You have your own better reason 
And that also is valid 
Because your reason
For your connections
Is entirely up to your circumstances 
And that maybe something worth considering as well

Perhaps you just needed more fingers 
More eyes
More thought pouring out 

To take you to better places 
Where you also belonged 
Which you didn’t get to until now
Because you didn’t know 
These places existed 
Where they did 

But now you know 
And you frequent them bars 
Because why not!

And that’s a good reason also 
And that’s something 
You can think about 

What’s your reason 
For your interest 
In connecting 
And establishing new roots?
