Why Do We Seek Company?
A series of whys
Why do we seek company Why do we want to have company Why do we want to make another ours? Why do we love and hate And sometime call it quits? Why do we ask for having company Why do we seek to have some fun Why do we want to talk endlessly And share with each other a ton Why do we want to share ourselves With another Why do we look forward to such times Why do we get addicted to the one And obsess over them so much Why do we want to talk forever And sometimes don’t talk at all Why do we want to make them ours alone And not give them up to another Why do we want them to love us And if they do not Why do we get so upset And want to punish them again Why can’t we love unconditionally Why can’t we simply let them be What they want to be Why do we let them turn us Into remote machines they can manipulate Why do we try and keep on trying To make them understand us Why do we lose ourselves to another And want to make them choose us Why do we seek that they would love us Exactly as we love them Why do we want to keep them slaves to us And make them as clowns for us Why do we want to make them dancing dolls And can be tuned with a key Why do we not give them enough space And yet we think they are ours alone Why do we want to have company And want them to choose us alone When we can’t really give them the company That they expect or deserve Why do we want to have company Why do we want to make them ours alone Why do we want to make them go away If they don’t show up according to what we see Why do we want to have us entertained And want to be here now for them Why do we not even realize Who is important to us And who isn’t anything at all? Why do we want to have attention When we are not ready to give it ourselves Why do we want to give to those That don’t deserve anything from us Why do we want to have attention Why do we want to do enough Why do we give and give and give some more And get upset when it is not returned in equal measure Why do we want to have company When we are not ready to do it ourselves God help us to be here now And not lose what we have with us to what we do not Peace ✌🏽

Thank you Obi for restacking my post
Shalini’s poem feels like someone thinking out loud in the quiet hours of the night, wrestling with the messy, beautiful contradictions of love and connection. It’s raw, vulnerable, and deeply human like reading someone’s heart laid bare. Her questions aren’t just poetic musings; they echo the confusion we’ve all felt when trying to hold onto someone while also trying to let them be free. There’s pain in her words, but also tenderness, a longing to understand why we love the way we do. It’s not polished it’s honest. And in that honesty, she gives voice to the parts of us we often keep hidden.
