What is Truth?
A Call For Discernment!
Truth is something that is real. Somethings can only be told in terms of other things. Truth is one such something. It can be understood only in terms of its opposites such as lies, falsehood, fraud, fake, fiction and such. Truth is something that is factual. Truth is something that cannot be a lie, fake, false, fraudulent or fiction. Truth is real, is a fact, is something tangible, credible, can be proved using experimentation and logical reasoning.
There are many truths. There is a truth to about everything we encounter in life. Like for instance, there is a sky. And there are clouds. The sky is endless. But it is still there. Even though it might appear like a screen to our eyes. Many truths are like that. They appear rigid while they are not really so and may be fluid. It is up to us to discern the truths behind every lie we encounter in life.
I encountered one truth in my life today and I wanted to talk about it as an example for this topic. The truth about the fact that we are not alone in this world. This huge world of 8.2 billion people. Can you imagine how many people that can be? If we are all stacked up against one another, how many football fields would it take? That would be about 383,000 football fields if we were tightly stacked up with each other, about 21000 people per field.
There’s so many people in this world and yet there about 280 million depressed people in the world. That is about 728 people per football field. Or in other words, 3 people out of 100 people need help, need love, need encouragement from the other 97 people.
Can’t we do that? The math seems pretty simple, there’s 30 people that can focus on one depressed person, that translates to about one whole big super family of parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins or if the person doesn’t have relatives, it can be a class full of students or a church group of Bible study people who can tend to the one person who needs help and relieve him of his depression.
And yet about 350,000-500,000 people die out of depression every year. Look around you, do you know of anybody in your immediate vicinity who seems to be suffering from depression symptoms? Would you check on them, see if they need some love, some hugs, some kisses perhaps? How can you help somebody around you today?
So, the truth in this case is that, in spite of so many people existing around us, each and every one of us is all alone. While some of us have lived in conditions that have structured us to take this truth in our stride, there are so many others who have not been exposed to these conditions and there are others who will be unable to take loneliness when they finally encounter it. Look around you again. Who in your group needs your help to navigate life? Can you set aside some of your time for them?Perhaps, they could use some of your help.
The friend I mentioned about that I finally got back in touch after 11 years, she needed my help today. She was exhausted and tired after going through a difficult 11 year journey and she much appreciated the reconnection. She said I have come back again to save her from her agony. Praise God for leading me back to her!
Look around you today! Is there anybody who might need your help? What truths have you encountered in your life which have impacted you? What truths in your life have impacted others? Have you been useful to this world? We could all use a smile today!
Think about this!
Peace ✌🏽
