The Tide Came In
Nice Try, Ocean!

The tide came in Without thinking It saw the shore and decided— Ah beautiful! Can I have a piece for myself? It decided to ask the shore— Can we hang out a bit? The shore just smiled by itself Knowing fully well it cannot move But it didn’t want to tell the tide—Nice Try! So it smiled and simply nodded While thinking to itself—What a prick! The tide understood It moved on The shore forgot all about it Life went on as usual for both The tide went around the ocean Looking for shores to share a season with Then one day the tide came back to the same shore again One look at the shore and the tide remembered what happened before But the shore didn’t recognize the tide But this time the shore had changed Seasons of dryness and drought had its spirits dampened So when the tide returned to the shore again The shore had been waiting for the tide to return without knowing The tide came back to the shore again The shore was finally quenched of its thirst The shore was now ready to go with the tide wherever it went But the tide was not ready to spend eternity with the shore It had just wanted a little bit of challenge The tide left the shore again Thirsty, hungry and now in pain and misery The shore never wanted to see the tide ever again The tide kept coming in and going out The shore kept glistening and changing shape But the shore understood the tide can’t be trusted as it remains So it bid adieu to the tide saying— I’ll see you again! Now the tide is going around the ocean once more Wondering to itself— did I make a mistake? Did I lose my shore? Will the tide return to the shore again? Or will the shore get engulfed by another tide? It remains to be seen Nice Try, Ocean!
