The Longing Heart
Can it be revived?
The longing heart It longs for comfort It longs for company It longs for presence The one to call its own A longing heart It seeks filling It seeks nourishing It seeks cherishing It wants to be delighted A needy heart It’s ready to give Pour itself out For the one that it tells itself Belongs to him A surviving heart It’s just existing Making ends meet Rather unpleasantly But beat A begging heart It’s ready to bow down To any insult Humiliation Just in exchange for presence A pitiful heart It’s dying inside It’s broken again With vain attempts Why does the heart long so much For the one who doesn’t care for it? Because it stays in the past When time stopped in its tracks And the world stopped moving around it The only action that happened Was what happened within it The longing heart Stays vigilant Waiting in vain For as long as it can For the one who came And took it away with him Waiting endlessly in pain Will he ever come back again? And perhaps he will When he’s grabbing on to guard rails And helping himself up With a walking stick Does the longing heart Want to wait so long for him? Or can it find a space To heal itself Apply bandage And learn To love once again Step by step Like a baby learns to get up every time And walk again Until it succeeds Think about this Peace ✌🏽

Excellent poem, Shalini. Me thinks you’ve nailed it. Very easy reading. And to contemplate 🤔 Top marks for your effort.
