Romances
Have you ever felt sensations creeping up your spine?
Romances What does it to be romantically involved Does it mean you are in a relationship with a person? I want to counter that It’s not! It’s a relationship with yourself As you get to know the depth The length breadth and depth of emotions And feelings you can experience All happening in you alone Isn’t it? Do you need to experience yourself By coming into contact with another person? Why is that? What can happen inside of you when you think about this person Isn’t that the cause for the word romance? Can you be romantically involved them With things? Like a flower A river The ocean? Don’t they also cause reactions inside of you That you experience when you get to meet them? Have you encountered visceral reactions within yourself like that When you met somebody or something you have never met before? Let me explain— I encountered one such reaction When I visited New Hampshire for the first time I was suddenly standing in front of this huge hill It felt like a mountain Enormous it was Majestic was the word I felt in that instant Looming into outer space Right from the opposite of the lake edge from where I was standing We had gone there to see fall colors Which in itself was making me fall in love with every leaf on the road But when I encountered this mountain And had to bend my neck back Away from me In order to take in the entirety of it In that instant I had a romantic reaction with God! It felt like I had just witnessed The majestic mountain That was just one tiny encounter With God’s creation! Visceral I marveled Appreciated Awestruck in wonder As I drew in the entire sight Romance Was there a better word for it? But that was only the first time Slowly and surely I encountered Many other such natural wonders Have you been to the Yosemite national park on a snowy occasion? Another visceral reaction I encountered As I stepped out from my car To look at the snow-capped mountains It felt like I had just reached heaven! And there I witnessed the half dome Sitting among the clouds! Oh my! What an experience it was! I can feel the sensations Creeping up on me right now! Slowly then it dawned on me Not just mountain caps But ponds and lakes Fishes and birds Even butterflies seem at the right time When the sun is behind the clouds And you can see the beautiful orange As it flies by! Even buttercups on a spring morning When the sun was hidden behind the clouds They can make for such a reaction in you! Think about hyacinths and water lilies And the black bird with the red neck It’s velvety fur when you come closer to it! Have you seen doves? The pure white kind? When you witness fishes jump out of water For the very first time On a board walk at night When the silvery fishes look stunning against the moonlight! Think about encountering a bird Sitting atop a tiny rock Waiting patiently to catch one And you waited with it Until you finally witnessed that as well! In your backyard When you encounter a hawk A blue jay A red bird A blue heron! Or even a night heron That perches itself on a neighbors tree And keeps watching you As you go up and down your driveway Talking to a friend from long ago Having a deep and interesting conversation For twenty complete minutes in silence As you go this side and that As if she wants you to know That she’s sitting there Just waiting for you to notice her And enjoy her beauty And never ever forget What she did to you at that moment! Have you encountered that in your life? Are you romantically involved? How does it feel like? Has it produced any sensations yet in your body? Any reactions, responses? As you encounter the creation Of the greatest creator Who isn’t man? How has it changed you? Has it made a difference in your life? Think about this! Peace ✌🏽

Shalini’s words feel like a soft breeze brushing against the soul. She doesn’t speak of romance as something reserved for lovers, but as a quiet, sacred stirring that happens deep within us often in the presence of nature, beauty, or awe. Her reflections are tender, almost childlike in their wonder, yet profoundly wise. The way she describes visceral reactions to mountains, birds, and moonlit fish is not just poetic it’s deeply human. It’s the kind of romance that doesn’t ask for anything, only invites you to feel. To be moved. To remember that being alive is, in itself, a love story.
I love how you reframed romance as something that begins within — that quiet awe we feel toward the world itself. It’s such a gentle reminder that love doesn’t always need another person to bloom~
