Respect is an important thing 
Respect means you treat somebody 
the way you want to be treated 
With dignity 

Respect is not only for others 
Respect is also for you 
You want others to treat you 
the way they want to be treated too

Self respect is therefore important 
You first respect yourself 
the way you want others to respect you 
With dignity 

But respect is an earned thing 
You respect yourself 
only when you behave respectfully

Others respect you also 
Only when you behave respectfully 
With integrity and authenticity 
Not with a manipulative power grabbing authoritative attitude

Respect is an earned thing 
If you want to be respected
And treated with dignity 
Then behave respectfully 
so others may respect you 
The intention matters 

When you talk therefore
people won’t just listen to your words 
People will ask themselves 
Why is he talking that?

Then they will decide 
whether they want to respect you or not 
So think ahead 
Before you talk something 

Know that people will not just listen to your words 
Smart people will also listen to your actions 
And look for cues before they decide 
how you will be treated
