We assume we are owners and in that assumption we lose

Ownership 

Who can claim ownership of anything in this world?
And yet we do it all the time 
My mom, my dad, my brother, my sister 
My job, my car, my watch, my lifestyle 
My husband, my wife, my son, my daughter
Even our very own life on earth
Everything is temporary 
Comes and goes 
Nothing stays with us for ever 
Not even this body or mind 
They die when the body does 
Relinquishes its ownership on earth 

And yet we don’t realize 
Assume everything is ours 
Everything lasts forever 
Until we have them with us no more 

And when it’s time for them to leave us
We feel devastated
We are unable to accept it 
We even try to hold on to them as if for life 
As if that effort to hold on to them is going to make a difference 
We assume we are Savithri 
And we can get Yama to favor us! Haha!

And in that thought process 
We waste all our lives 
Assuming we have plenty of time 
To do as we please with them 
Whatever we dare

We care less
we abuse 
We misuse 
We don’t give them our time 
Our love 
Our attention 
As they deserve 

And so when it’s time to let go
We feel lost
Depressed 
As if something that is ours 
Has been seized violently 
And taken away from us
Poor man
When will he learn?
