Man is greedy because man is afraid. Afraid that there’s not enough. Afraid that he’s not enough. It’s not just a sad state of affairs, it’s a tragic predicament.

I don’t know if irony is the right word, but tragic certainly is. We have enough, yet we don’t think we are enough, therefore we take more and more.

This reminds me of the book Braiding Sweet Grass

I get your point, but it’s far from survival instinct. Animals don’t work that way. It’s based in fear. It’s how a beaten dog would act, or how a dog might steal food from other dogs if it has been abused. It’s not natural.

If you’re constantly facing threats, you don’t live in a natural environment. Farmers in India face threats from tigers because of the activity of the farmers. I don’t think the Tigers prey lives with the sense of constant threat or constant fear, in fact, they process fear very differently than we do.

We also have something called anxiety, which is a normal response to a society that is not normal. We may be out of food chain, but I would bet that we live under more fear than most prey animals.

I am not understanding your point here. Can you elaborate?

Well, it sounds like you’re saying that the greed is sort of an Instinct, like a survival instinct. And I don’t think of it that way, I think of it as a distorted emotion or condition. I think it’s like a mental illness.

I’m saying it comes from fear, which comes from oppression. And then it gets distorted and you get this sort of victim blaming thing happening. “Oh the poor white men, most oppressed group ever, what if they get me-tooed?”

Aha! Now I understand. What you are saying is we have allowed fear to dictate our lives ? Am I right? Those who indulge in hoarding for themselves, that is!

Yes, that’s what’s destroying the planet. Even Taylor Swift, oh my God, I think she’s a great songwriter, I think she’s a good business person, she seems like a very nice and conscientious person, but there’s a huge and fundamental conflict there. There is no place for billionaires in the world because it reinforces the kind of greed that destroys it.

To be clear, I’m not indicting, Taylor, Swift, or Oprah, or any billionaire who tries their best to do good in the world. I just think there’s a limit. I don’t think Oprah could eradicate homelessness if she tried, because I don’t think it’s just about the money.

Yeah it’s hard to understand man’s greediness when you are on the other side of the fence.

It’s like survival instinct. If you are constantly facing threats, you cannot live creatively. You cannot enjoy the beauty of life for what it is. You are always looking as though danger is right around the corner. And hence you try to gather as much as you can in order to keep up your defenses. And it happens only because you haven’t experienced life for what it is.

As long as I was living a Christian life, I was also always fearful, for example, if I don’t attend Bible study or join the moms prayer group, my children won’t be protected or blessed. That’s not a good way to live life.

It’s only when you feel free you can experience the abundance of life as it is. Sadly, not many are able to, simply because they are already jostling for money, status, etc. They have been told that you cannot win if you don’t join the rat race.

They don’t have time to pause because they have already committed to so many responsibilities such as mortgages, car loans, student loans etc.

So they have to work in order to make money and when they are busy juggling life, where is the time to pause and think and where is the time to enjoy the blessings given?

It’s only the few who find the narrow road to life!

Great writing. Everything has become a greedy interest among crazy groups, and thirsty for world wealth. Everyone needs wealth, but there are certain limits that must be maintained in terms of morals and human values. The world community certainly understands who controls and is controlled, who colonizes and colonizes, who oppresses and destroys. Then who wants to be hurt and tortured, I think all good people will understand.

Thank you jybyky. Yes, we have to think why we were given the privilege of being human and then act with responsibility and allow the meaning of life to inspire and motivate us
