When I was a kid, people talked about getting married and going over Niagra Falls in a barrel. I thought they were serious and that it was some sort of thrill ride, like at an amusement park. I think I believed it until I saw an actual film of the "Falls."

Shalini, I looked it up and several people did it. This was the first: The first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel was Annie Edson Taylor, a 63-year-old schoolteacher from Bay City, Michigan. On October 24, 1901, Taylor became the first person to survive the plunge over the falls. Her motivation was financial, as she hoped the stunt would bring her fame and fortune. It didn't say whether she got her fame or any fortune.
