How To Show Gratitude
A thoughtful suggestion
What is gratitude? The feeling that arises In your heart When you encounter Somebody’s kindness Especially to where you lack Gratitude forms naturally within us But some of us don’t know how to express it How to throw the veil back And show appreciation for the action That brought us gratitude Gratitude can be expressed in one word By saying thank you But that one word of saying thank you Is just that One word There are many ways to show your gratitude back Some people give a hug back They feel emotional That’s not bad We have to be able to genuinely And sincerely Express emotions And if you’re able to do that That would be best But others cannot do that Instead they try To buy a gift Spend some money Send a thank you card To express their gratitude But in the act of doing that Getting a gift or card And giving it back We make it a transaction We have made it so And that is not really a nice way Of showing gratitude Gratitude should never be made a transaction Because once the transaction is done You feel like you’ve done your part in return No you have not! You never get to do your part in return For a kindness somebody showed to you When you needed it most Gratitude should always remain in the heart So the best way of showing your appreciation Can start with just simple words Like saying thank you A smile A hug A twinkling eye But the rest of the gratitude Has to be carried in the heart For another time Someday perhaps The person who helped you today Might come back asking for your help Or even if they don’t You might be made aware That they are needing a little help Oh it’s definitely coming back! And that’s when you act Act with all your heart For what you owed them In gratitude Until then Just remaining in touch As a good friend Should do Think about this Peace ✌🏽

This hit me especially the part about gratitude not being a transaction. I’ve struggled with that idea, thinking I had to ‘pay back’ kindness right away. But you’re right, real gratitude lives longer than a gift or a card it lives in the heart until the moment comes to act. Thank you for laying it out so clearly. ✨
