Hijacked Loyalty
It’s Real

How would she have known That his dad had abused his mom for like forever And then had left them home for a couple years Until the boy finished school where he was at And how that had made them close So close that his loyalty Came to her only Not first, not second, not third But only to her always How would she have known That no matter what she said to him And what she did for him And how she took care of him As if he were a child He would take all of it And expect some more While giving nothing in return? How would she have known That when she complained about it His mom’s advice to her to be loving to him So that he would slowly start loving her Which seemed reasonable at the time to her Would never materialize Because she’d come time and time again To disrupt what little the girl built And make him her own again Forever? All her life Her joy, her patience Her endurance All gone nought for nothing How could she endure this madness After she understood it finally That her whole married life Was wasted? She wanted to run away From there forever But where would she go How would she survive? When she had given it her all Her job, her career Her strength, her power Her everything Why didn’t anybody tell her the truth Why didn’t nobody call out the bullshit Why didn’t somebody come to her rescue And help her understand this nonsense? Why did she have to go through so much? Why did she have to endure all this? Why did they not see this? Her parents, her mentors, her friends? Why didn’t nobody warn her otherwise? Why did they all believe in her silence? Why did nobody see through her? Why did nobody come through to her? Why did God let this go on endlessly Until it finally dawned on her That her whole life had been wasted And if she wanted to survive this She’d have to start all over again? Why?
