Do You Recognize This Greed?
Think about it
Greed is not only for money It can be for many other things Trying to work more When you shouldn’t be working Beyond what you’re being paid to It takes away from your family And your freedom And your health Which you won’t realize Until it’s too late to You’re reading something You don’t want to stop But if you don’t stop You’re borrowing from tomorrow’s time And health And peace in structure and discipline That’s greed also! And scrolling… I don’t even have to go there The phone knows better about you Than you know yourself You’d think you spent like an hour on Substack The phone will say it was 3 or 4 Let’s recognize Our nature of greed And try to control ourselves Put a stop perhaps And do what is right At least try Next time! Peace ✌🏽

This piece feels like a gentle nudge from someone who’s been there caught in the loop of doing, scrolling, pushing, without realising what’s quietly slipping away. Shalini doesn’t preach; she reflects, and in doing so, invites us to pause. The idea that greed isn’t just about money, but about time, attention, and even our own wellbeing, hits close to home. We chase productivity, we binge on content, we stretch ourselves thin and call it normal. But this poem reminds us that every moment borrowed from rest, from presence, from peace, comes at a cost. It’s not dramatic it’s deeply human. And the call to “at least try next time” isn’t a demand. It’s a hand held out in kindness.
