Butterfly or Moth
The debate is endless
butterfly or moth? The debate is endless Both sides fuming with each other Seeking revenge Blood Something Anything they could lay their hands on. Is it a butterfly or a moth? That’s all they needed to know I looked at the insect It looked tiny Does it really matter what it is? I wondered why the debate kept raging What’s the big difference? But turns out there is a difference And the difference is important Butterflies are day creatures Moths live at night Butterflies are beautiful and graceful Moths are rapid, darting and dull Butterflies live in nature They like honey from the flowers They visit very briefly And are gone quickly Moths stay longer They linger They wait watch and catch their prey And suck the blood entirely before they leave No I’m just kidding That’s not the point of this imagery But this is: Some people in our lives Are butterflies They visit briefly They bring us joy They linger only for a bit They leave as soon as their task is finished Others are moths They linger longer They suck your blood out Before they leave Know who you are homing with Is he a butterfly in your life Or a moth that persists Think about this Peace ✌🏽

I think you’re being very unfair to moths. OK some are dull, but many are strikingly beautiful (check out my posts!). And in the UK only two out of about 2,500 species are clothes pests, most of the rest feed on plants of one kind or another, just like butterflies.
There is no debate for me. Biological moths ate all my sweaters; symbolically - very unpleasant in any sense. And butterflies are so beautiful; not for nothing, instead of writing beautiful novels, Vl. Nabokov devoted his life to he butterflies.
